I thought I'd post a friendly reminder to all the LagoonIsFun.com users that Lagoon goes back to weekend only operation August 21st. We are down to the last two weeks of the regular operating season! This means Lagoon will be starting their preparation for Frightmares soon. I cannot believe that it has come this fast. Before you know it, the gates are going to be closed for the year! Wait, that is too depressing to think about already. Forget I wrote it. Tongue

This also means that the end of Broadway Corner and The Great American Jukebox is near. Both shows will have their last performance on September 5th. If you have not seen them yet, make sure you catch them before they are gone.

Quote:From its birth to the dog days of summer, Lagoon lives long and prospers

FARMINGTON — Lagoon Amusement Park has a rich history that reflects life and society. It continues to excite new generations and remains a family gathering place.

Over the past 124 years, it would be easier to list what type of activities Lagoon hasn't hosted, because the variety is staggering — boxing, horse racing, baseball, track meets, dancing, concerts, roller skating, bowling, wrestling, fireworks, high-diving, rodeos, fishing, boating and much more.

We're all kids at heart, and Lagoon is one of those rare places that reminds you of that.

Also, mention just two words, "Fun House," and if you grew up in northern Utah and you're over 25 years of age, chances are you may fondly recall that wild place.

From having to choose the right door to get inside; to the giant 50-foot high slides where riding a gunny sack down seemed like a great thrill; to large spinning discs where the last one on board was the winner; to another where gravity pinned you to the wall; this was nostalgic fun of a simpler era.

It also had a dog house crawl-through, a jail, electric air valves, a cage maze, a moving floor, rolling logs, distorted mirrors and more.

(Sadly, the Fun House closed for good in 1990.)

Quote:A taste of Las Vegas is coming to Lagoon this summer in the form of two speciality acts that will be included in the amusement park's regular-priced all-day passport.

The Extreme Parrot Show of Las Vegas, and Cirque Innosta presents L'Orage, with performers from Orlando, Fla., and Las Vegas, will be part of Lagoon's summer attractions this year, according to J.D. Dumas, operations/production manager for Lagoon entertainment.

"We just felt we needed more options in the park," he said.

The cirque show, which includes acrobats, contortionists and aerialists, will be presented at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the Davis Pavillion from July 5 to July 25, Dumas said.

Extreme Parrot Show begins July 26 and runs through Aug. 22. The parrot show will be held in the grassy area next to the Jumping Dragon ride, Dumas said, the same area where the park last summer held a monkey show, he said.

Show times for the parrot show will be 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m

Found an article regarding Lagoon in Universe. Here are a couple of excerpts from the article:

Quote:Dick Andrew, vice president of marketing for Lagoon, said Lagoon, as always, will have its own live entertainment throughout the summer in the form of music groups, but also said it’s featuring new performances this season as well.

“This year we are bringing in two other acts we think are going to be very exciting,” Andrew said. “We’re bringing in a group that is very much like Cirque du Soleil, Circus Nostra. As soon as they leave, we have a bird show.”

Quote:Although Lagoon isn’t as big and flashy as major theme parks like Disneyland, Six Flags or Universal Studios, many students agree Lagoon is quite fun for a local amusement park.
Tausha Hanzel, a senior from Herriman, has been to the park several times.

“I actually think Lagoon is just as fun as [Disneyland] just because it’s smaller and the lines aren’t as long,” Hanzel said.

Quote:Elric Birchette, from Spanish Fork, agrees the ticket prices are expensive, but said he avoids paying full price with a variety of discounts.

“Usually you can buy a Coke can and get a discount, or you can get there early in the morning and get the ‘early-bird special’ or you can find discounts online,” Birchette said. “I usually go twice a summer, because you get a ‘bounce-back’ pass for cheaper.”

Quote:You can bring food into Lagoon and picnic there – saving lots of money – if you desire – a rarity in today's theme park world.

Admission price is about half that of Disneyland. There are some good discounted ticket offers around too.

It has as a good selection of rides for young children and families and adds new rides most years.
