Lagoon Trail Fire

I get KSL on my cable here in Idaho so occasionally I watch the news. On Wednesday there was a quick report of a fire on the Lagoon Trail. They didn't show any video and I haven't been able to find any reference to it on their website or any other news website. Did anybody else hear about how bad it was or if the trail is open? It didn't sound like it was that big, but apparently all the cotton in the air made it worse than it would have been.

The 4th annual Coasting for Kids fundraiser occurs on June 10th this year. Coasting for Kids is an event where Cedar Fair partners with Give Kids The World (GKTW) in an effort to raise money for kids with life-threatening illnesses by allowing people to raise money for GKTW by riding roller coasters. I think this is a great concept, and I wanted to let everyone know of a way to support this great cause.

Theme Park Review (TPR) has announced that the proceeds from all digital downloads sales between May 17th and May 21st will go towards the Coasting for Kids event. This is a great opportunity to enjoy some of the great TPR digital downloads that they have for sale and support a great cause. Below is a copy of the email that Robb Alvey sent out announcing this.

I am curious if any Lagoon Is Fun members plan on participating in this event. If so, provide the link to your personal fundraising page for us to support you.

I'm thinking that next year we should try and get a group of us together to head out to a Cedar Fair park and participate in the event. I'm also wondering if Lagoon would let us do some type of fundraising event like this on one of their coasters or rides. I think it would be a lot of fun.

So yesterday Marketing from Seven Peaks contacted me and wanted to discuss with me about my videos from their water parks. (Seven Peaks Provo & Seven Peaks Salt Lake) So I emailed them and said they enjoy watching my videos from both venues and that they are considering putting a sort of video montage together and want my help. This is some exciting/fun news and I don't know if their going to be doing this for a commercial, website, or YouTube channel. What I have said is all I know right now. I will let you know more as I get info or what info I can share cause maybe they don't want to much details shared.

Skyrush is one of the coasters I have been following with interest. Keystone Thrills recently posted an update featuring a video of the new coaster in testing. Check out the video:

I really enjoy the layout of the coaster, and I think people will really enjoy riding this one. Hersheypark is one of the parks I enjoy visiting and plan to visit again once I lose enough weight.

I think it is time to have a little fun again by asking each of you what would you do, and this discussion focuses on Lagoon's live entertainment department. If you were in charge of Lagoon's live entertainment, what would you do? Would you change the way Lagoon does live entertainment or keep it as it is? If you did change it, how would you change it?

Here are some ideas to help you ponder on this:

What kinds of shows would you have?
What songs would you include in the shows?
Where would your shows be located?
Would you have specialty shows like L'orage or the parrot show?
Are there any old shows you would bring back?

Feel free to have fun with this thread, but I encourage you to try and keep your ideas somewhat realistic.

I didnt really like this ride because it weas too tame and lacked theming and water effects. Rattlesnake Rapids is a MUCH better ride then is. At least I can now say I have done it.

It sad to say the world has lost another Schwarzkopf coaster. Guess it comes with age, coasters eventually get replaced. Hopefully Cedar Point is planning something big to regain the coaster count crown. Now that they are in 2nd place!

2012 Lagoon TV Commercials

Has anyone else seen Lagoon's new 2012 commercials? I just saw my first one today advertising season passports. The animated look and music is another stark contrast from years past. No surprise how it matches the motif of the new season ride passes. Although I miss the live shots of the rides, I really like the creative use of the ride's animated appearances. (Sid will be ectatic to learn that the first ride shown is an animated train that happens to be GREEN....no lie!) Air Race is well represented demonstrating what it does. Kudos for having the rides form the letters of "LAGOON" at the end of the commercial....and the return of "It's what fun is!". It will be interesting to see what other variations come with this year's campaign....What do you guys think?

This is a fun coaster and a unique lift/launch hill. I like how unsuspecting riders don't know their going to launcn out in to a zero G roll. You start going up the lift at normal speeds and then almost to the top you launch from 0-40 MPH in 2 seconds out of the top!
