Haunts outside of Utah
Doing a S/O thread from the Fightmares 2012 discussion.

What are some other haunts people have been to outside of the state of Utah?

I think the best haunt I have been to other than Rocky Point is Universal's Halloween Horror Nights (Hollywood). This event is spectacular, but it is almost impossible to experience everything without getting a front of the line pass. If you think Lagoon's lines are bad, try 3-4 hour waits for 10-15 minute haunted houses.

I also recently experienced a 2 hour ghost hunt at Waverly Hills in Louisville, KY last month. This tour was one of the scariest experiences I have ever encountered. We could only use our lights on the stairwells! We even captured something in one of our photos that cannot be explained. I will try to attach the photo. Note: this room has had a horrible past. Two deaths, both by suicide. One from a hanging and the other is reported from a woman leaping out the window. In our photo, it looks like something is near the window...

If you are the brave type, I highly suggest staying in one of the haunted rooms at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO. It's a nice day drive from SLC and the town is beautiful. This is where Stephen King stayed and was inspired to write "The Shining." We stayed in room #428 and were spooked the entire night. There was no sleeping that night... Every minor noise in the room caused my friend and I to jump out of bed. They also have "The Shining" playing on a loop on channel 42 in all of the rooms. It was so much fun to investigate the history of the building and the corridors after nightfall. We lucked out with our reservations here for the haunted room. Usually you need to book the haunted rooms months in advance.

Speaking of great haunts... If you're ever in the LA area during haunt season, you have to check out Queen Mary. It is terrifying. This features three attractions on the boat itself, which of course is considered one of the most haunted places in america. Right after you enter through the gates, you are thrown into a giant maze with scare-actors chasing you. I also highly recommend staying the night in one of the many haunted rooms. At the front desk they have a document with all of the recorded haunted happenings in all of the rooms. It's cool to grab a hold of this and investigate the ship at night. I can't remember our room number, but we had some creepy unexplained experiences happen to us. Upon arrival, I received 3 calls from 3 different area codes, upon calling them back the numbers had all been disconnected. Still cannot explain that one. Security also came to our door after we all got back from the bar and said people have been witnessing someone that matched my friend and my description climbing on the flag poles on the upper deck. We kept telling them that we literally just got back from the bar and they just told us to not do it again. So weird.

I just moved to the East coast so I am excited to finally check out Eastern State Penitentiary, Pennhurst Asylum and Bates Motel. Bates continually gets rated best haunt in America. I don't know how anything can top Rocky Point, but we will see.

So are you still going to do a haunt here even though you moved?

I have been to the Fright Dome at the Adventure Dome at Circus Circus during October it wasn't that good. The actors just screamed at you and didn't really act like there character it was more like a boo then hiding. It was also over crowded. I did enjoy Canyon Blaster In The Dark .They did how ever did a walkthrough haunt thing of the 13th floor of Circus Circus for the hotel portion and that was fun. It was an extra fee of course. I really enjoy Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood. Best time to go to that is opening night cause they times the lines for each haunt is over a hour wait.

You can get a front of the line pass which will help you but will cost you. I really enjoy the one where you take the tram tour and you actually get off by the crash site they used for War of The Worlds. which is next to the bates motel. Just wait til later this month and ill have walkthroughs of haunts there.

I have also been to SFMM Fright Fest and they doo all there haunts outside and is not as good as Frightmares. I do enjoy riding Colossus Backwards & Riddlers Revenge in the dark better.

I never made it to any haunts while I lived in Las Vegas. I recently moved to Delaware, so I am excited to hit up some of the East Coast haunts.

I never made it to Six Flags, but Fright Farm at Knotts is pretty good. Their best attraction is the log flume. Every year it has a different theme and scare actors lean into your log during several scenes. It's pretty scary.

If you have time on your LA trip, I highly recommend "Dark Harbor" at Queen Mary. It is insanely spooky.

I agree, Horror Nights is fantastic. The tram is great, but after attending the last three years it hasn't changed. The only thing that has has been the preshow on the tram itself. I am very bummed, I will not be able to make it this year for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre house. It's going to be insane!

Do you recommend Bates Motel over Pennhurst? I can only attend one.

They each have their perks. But if I had to go to one I would go to Bates Motel. Its the first of the two and seemed longer to me. The Special effects are also some of the best.

RE: Haunts outside of Utah
I cannot find any information on Haunted Hotel. Where is it? On my latest trip to LA, I only had time for Horror Nights at Universal. If you have time, check out Dark Harbor in Long Beach.

I recently did, Eastern State - Terror Behind the Walls. The setting was fantastic and the haunt itself was long, but something was missing and I cannot pinpoint it. Maybe it was because everything was prison themed... They again used that new scare with the Electrocution Chair that Universal used. It's really effective!
