Thumbs Up Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City
Let the coaster announcements begin! This is my favorite time of year as amusement parks all over the place start announcing their rides for the next year. The most recent announcement that has peaked my interest is that of Outlaw Run being built at Silver Dollar City, so I thought I would start a thread about it. If you haven't read up on this coaster, you can check out all the info about it here: http://silverdollarcity2013.com

Anyone else following the developments of this coaster? I'd love to know what everyone else is thinking about this coaster. I find it interesting that a new wooden coaster with inversions is coming onto the scene as King's Island beings to remove Son of Beast, which used to also be a wood coaster with an inversion. I'm also excited to see that this will be the debut coaster for Rocky Mountain Construction. I think they have done an amazing job at improving other wooden coasters, so I'm sure Outlaw Run will definitely deliver.

Here is some info from the fact sheet provided by Silver Dollar City:
  • Cost of the new coaster: $10 Million
  • Track Length: 2,937 feet, more than half a mile
  • World’s Steepest Drop on a Wood Coaster: 162-foot drop, more than 16 stories, at 81 degrees – nearly vertical
  • World’s Only Wood Coaster to Twist Upside Down: A record-breaking 3 inversions, with a 720-degree (double) barrel roll and a 153-degree outside banked turn
  • Second Fastest Wood Coaster in the World: Top speed: 68 mph – World’s fastest wood coaster on steel wheels
  • 9 Locations for Airtime – Feeling of floating/weightlessness
  • 107-foot lift utilizes the natural hillside to create a 162-foot drop 10-story lift goes into 16-story first drop
  • Manufacturer: Rocky Mountain Construction Group, Hayden, Idaho

yeah, everyone EXCEPT Lagoon's marketing department...lol....

Looks like RMC's I-Box steel track is going to be used for this. Their woodies are hybrids (wood/steel.)

I thought this was also interesting (major refurb in April 2011 by RMC):

The mention of a woodie inversion made me wonder HOW!? Thanks for posting Will Smile

I am so stoked for this coaster. I'm a big fan of RMC and their brand of coaster style. They are just starting but I like the possibilities they have and what they have in store for us coaster enthusiasts. I have Silver Dollar City on my list of parks to hit but now its definitely moved up on that list (it was pretty high already anyway).
This is one coaster I have to ride!

I agree with what everyone has said above. This coaster looks fantastic. I am curious how the laterals will be on this ride. Looks like there will be no headrests on the seats. I can't think of any coaster that has a barrel roll without OTR's. Is there one?

I think everyone has.

With the recent announcement of "Gate Keeper" at CP, I am still more excited for this coaster. Now, what will SFMM add to their line-up? Utilizing the old monorail mountain tunnels might make this coaster the "Maverick" of the west coast...

I really hope Lagoon has sometime unique up their sleeves. Just wait and see what "Outlaw Run" will do for Silver Dollar City. It will for sure get world wide recognition and every travel blog and television channel will want to feature the coaster. Smart public relations move for a park that is in the middle of the country.

Outlaw Run is using the Topper Track, not the "Iron Horse" I-Box Track that they used on NTAG.

The more I watch this coaster come to life, the more I think its just a revolutionary gimmick. Don't get me wrong, it looks fun. I just don't think is will be as "ZOMGWOWBRDLEGARGLE" as people are making it out to me.

I think it will be a good coaster. Now could be a gimmick, maybe. But that still doesn't make it not fun. I really like the fact that its using track topper and not complete iron horse track.
