Cliffhanger's Future
As all of you should know by now, Cliffhanger has been closed all season, or it hasn't been open any time I have been to Lagoon this year. This is pretty normal for Cliffhanger to be down for a length of time, but does anybody know why?
I heard this from an employee that works at Lagoon that Cliffhanger was supposed to be run with distilled water and not chlorine water, which Lagoon ran with chlorine water. Because the ride could not handle the chlorine, much of the ride was ruined. With Mondial having told Lagoon not to run chlorine water in the ride, they have cut off their warranty so Lagoon has to fix it themselves, which costs too much for Lagoon to do. So there is now talk of taking out Cliffhanger in the very near future, maybe even sometime this year.
I have no idea has much of this is true but it is pondering my mind so I am wondering if anyone *cough*Sid*cough* knows more on what actually is wrong with Cliffhanger. If to be true, no one likes to see a water ride go from Lagoon. They help cool off everyone, even if it couldn't wet down the entire family.

Your story is semi true, Lagoon did run chlorine in Cliff's first year and that is why is was down its first year and part of its 2nd year and new parts had to be manufactured. From then on they have a water filtration system that uses electricity to clean the water. That problem has been solved for years. I do not know what is currently wrong with the ride this year but I can be pretty positive that is not chlorine in the water. I personally have had to swim in cliff's pond before and it does not have chlorine in it. Cliff has many issues and Lagoon taking it out would not make me sad in the least. It has problems every year. Like in 2004 the arms of the ride went opposite directions, mind you nobody was on it. They had a company come out to try and figure out cliff's problems and while just swinging the ride back and forth the arms went separate ways. Sounds in probable but I actually talked to the people who were running it at the time. After that it was down till the next season. My opinion is tear it out and use the space for something better like run the Broadway shows again or tear out the theater and use all the space for something better. Cliff's line was always a thorn in my side as a supervisor over it. Because it had no queue line, which is as told to me by, I won't use his name other than capt safety, for fire code so a fire truck could be taken down that midway if needed. So I would not be sad if the ride was scrapped. It has so many issues and I'm sure Lagoon is tired of the piece of crap.

RE: Cliffhanger's Future
I still remember the ride flipping more in its first and second year of operation. Members on here have expressed differently, but I remember what I rode. The ride I experienced years later was not at all the same. The ride was making noises and running very slow, so much so that I no longer got the pit in my stomach feeling. Sad to see the ride in such disrepair and I pass the opportunity to ride it every time I have visited in the past. It is not at all thrilling anymore.

I doubt people would miss Cliffhanger if Lagoon chose to remove it rather than fight with it. I rode it once in 2002, and that was enough for me. With Lagoon no longer using the Music USA Theater, they could remove Cliffhanger and tear down the theater they no longer use and have a larger area to put something nice in there.

This ride is the reason we can't have nice things.

A nice place for a medium-sized coaster made awesome and thrilling.
I would miss it. My first time riding it would always be my favorite, which was in 2007 (it was down all other times I went to Lagoon before that.) I would hope they do add a water ride on the south side of the park. With Cliffhanger being the only one, with it being down most of the time and having it be the next in line to go it seems, South Midway would be in dire need of a water ride.

Tear out the Music USA Theater and Cliff and put in a new version of Speedway! Just sayin, I can't let go of the mems. I know Speedway was a MX nightmare in the end as well. That sort of thing won't happen, so my next suggestion is Huss Giant Frisbee.

RE: Cliffhanger's Future
I highly doubt the new Giant Discovery would go in its place. I have been told by many sources it will be somewhere in PV. Anyways back on the Cliffhanger thing, I see it coming out because there's just no way you can make money buying so many parts to fix a ride. I would love to see a midsized roller coaster go in its spot. There is also room back behind Spider they could use if they put a coaster in its spot. But, I see a thrill ride going there.

RE: Cliffhanger's Future
I like Reserve ID's idea! But I also doubt that will happen. I thought Cliffhanger was fun - the few times I rode it - but I can't really remember the last time I was on it. It's kind of sad it never really got to be appreciated like it could have been, but I wouldn't mind losing Cliff.
