LIF NoLimits Summer Contest Voting - Velcro - 09-02-2012 08:16 PM
The LIF NoLimits Summer Contest has ended, so that means it's time to take a look at the entries! Below, you can check out the videos for each coaster, read some info about them, and vote for the coaster you like the best.
Each video features three parts to the video. The first is an on-ride view of the coaster. Next, you watch the coaster from an off-ride perspective. Finally, the video features a few of the elements found on the coaster.
Coaster Design 1
Coaster Design 2
Special note about the design: The "boosters" some people see on the second drop are actually trim brakes.
Now that you have seen both coasters, here is your chance to vote for the coaster that you think should win using the poll below:

Both are unrealistic, but very fun designs.
My vote went to coaster design number 1 for the unique elements. Loved the throwback to Drachen Fire at the top of the lift hill. I wish I could have ridden that bad boy. The extractor element was pure genius and I cannot believe that has not been featured on a coaster yet. Overall, the coaster was too long and I did not like the propelled launch that led to a helix and corkscrew, but if you edit out some of the elements and lower the lift hill this thing is pure gold.
As for coaster number 2, I loved the top hat twist element and the speedy "Maverick" / "Storm Runner" like turns.
After viewing several of these contests, I must say there is some great undiscovered coaster building talent. I can also see that Bombora's surf turn elements have become a favorite amongst the LIF community. I am bummed I have never been on it.
Great work! Keep these contests going.

What makes them unrealistic might I ask. I think both designs are both realistic and feasible

Has a length over 8000'
I don't know where the speed is coming and the momentum never lets up.
The MCBR is super tall and the second half could be a separate coaster.
Is the most realistic of the bunch, but the booster LIM launch before the top hat inversion is not. If I would have done it differently, this should have been the first element following the first drop.
Some of the turns towards the end seem off - force wise.
Like I said, I loved the designs and both had great elements that I have never seen and I love viewing the creativity behind all of these contests.

I forgot to mention how I am determining the winner.
First, I am running the public poll posted in the first post of this topic. The public poll will make up 35% of the decision. The next 35% is determined by the LIF team. Finally, I have a group of friends who do not use this site, but they enjoy NoLimits. I have asked them for help in voting in the past, and I have asked them to help again. They will be voting as well, and their votes hold a weight of 30%.
The voting will end on September 9th, and I will declare a winner on the 10th or 11th.

I never wanted to post my opinions, but it seems most of my opinions are already on the board. I will just add on what else I think of the two coasters.
Coaster one: Too long. Many of the unique elements are great, but not so many new ideas can come together in one 4-minute coaster. Funny, how I post about a coaster being too long when most of Lagoon's coasters are too short, in GP aspect.
Coaster two: Those turns scare me. Not because they are intimidating like Maverick's, but because they look to be Vekoma scary. Not because of the seats, but because of the track. They look like they will hurt! Maybe have more than 3-4 inversions, because they seem to lack of it. I feel it should have more in the layout, but not B&M pointless invert after invert.
Overall, the two coasters are amazing, and could be made into three different ones.

I was just informed by the creator of Coaster Design 2 that those are trim brakes you see on that second drop, not a booster.

I personally like both designs. They are both awesome and realistic.
Design 1. The only unrealistic thing about it is the extreme length of the coaster. It would be split into two coasters or turned in a two station coaster with a dueling effect. Other wise its a great coaster. The two systems of transport would have to be made into one. so the lifts would just need to be magnetic because your going to not want a chain dog and the magnetic under workings on the trains, I know its only a conventional lift here because the contest stated it needed to have a conventional lift. I do like the flawless integration though between launch and lift it was done very well. On the argument of no layout that has been brought up I'd have to disagree and say that it does have a layout, there was thought put into this design and therefore it has a layout. I think the designer knew what he was doing and accomplished it very well. The unique elements were a definite plus on this coaster.
Now on to Coaster design 2:
There were a few transitions that were a little rough. But I'm sure the designer made sure that the g's were with in tolerance ranges. The curved station is an interesting feature, I guess it could work. The station building I would assume the floor is there when this would be built. I'm glad we got some clarification on the as some called boosters on the 2nd drop, does make sense that those were trims brakes. I like the layout of this coaster being focused at least it seems to me anyway that its focused around the lift hill I could be wrong and I probably am but that's what it seems to me. I liked the side track very fitting and uses space well. I liked the number of inversions, I think they had good spacing and flowed well. I'd like to know the g rating for the vertical zero g roll. I don't know if anyone else thought of this but the first drop and first incline kinda look like the rumored x car coaster that was rumored for Lagoon like this X Coaster guess it would travel opposite of this but the look seems similar.
Both coaster designs are great and I think we have a great contest here.

So when do we get to find out the results?

I was waiting to receive some responses from the LIF team, but I only got one. I will announce the winner tomorrow.
