Lagoon Is Fun Summer 2012 NoLimits Contest - Velcro - 06-01-2012 07:38 PM

Today marks the first official day of our summer NoLimits contest. Everyone who owns the NoLimits coaster simulator is invited to participate in this contest. It will run all summer long, so everyone will have plenty of time to work on a fantastic coaster. I always love running these NoLimits contests because I am amazed at what some people create, and I look forward to seeing what people come up with this time around.

Contest Story:

Lagoon removed Top Eliminator to make way for their new 2014 coaster. You have been hired to design the new coaster. The new coaster cannot pass over any current rides on the north end of the park, but you are free to use any of the space where Top Eliminator sat as well as the field north of the park. The coaster station needs to be near the Pit Row building in case management decides to use the building as an entrance to the new coaster. Additionally, management has asked you to adhere to the following with your design:
  • The coaster must be a steel coaster with a chain lift.
  • Seating for the new coaster should be two-across (much like Fire Dragon and Roller Coaster.
  • The height of the coaster must be between 200 - 225 feet.
  • Your design must include a corkscrew element
  • Management also wants to make an impact with this new coaster by including an element never before used, so you must create and name a unique element for your coaster.

Contest Participation:

Design a coaster using the NoLimits coaster simulator following the above guidelines.

Contest Deadline:

All coaster designs must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on August 31, 2012.

Coaster Submission:

All roller coasters must be submitted via email by sending your track file to contest@lagoonisfun.com.

Contest Judging:

I will create a video of each coaster submission at the end of the contest and post all the videos at the same time. The videos will simply show the coaster and allow viewers to see what it would be like to ride the coaster. To eliminate bias when it comes to voting, the videos will not reveal who built the coaster. All coasters will simply be named Coaster 1, Coaster 2, Coaster 3, etc.. I ask that participants not reveal which coaster is theirs until a winner has been picked.

This contest will be judged using a couple of methods. First, a handful of judges, chosen by me, will submit a vote for their favorite coaster in the first week after the contest has ended. Judges will be asked to make a selection based on adherence to the contest rules and practicality of the design. Once the judges have a chance to pick their favorite coaster, a public poll will open up asking the LIF Community to vote for their favorite coaster. The public poll will run for one week.

Winner Selection:

The votes cast by the judges will have a weight of 65% while the public poll will have a weight of 35%. Once voting ends, I will calculate the winning percentage of each coaster. The coaster that receives the highest percentage will win. In the event of a tie, I will cast the tie-breaking vote.

Contest Prize:

The winner of this contest will win this 18" x 24" framed poster of Wicked:
