FARMINGTON — Lagoon will open on weekends for its 124th season on Saturday, April 3, 10 a.m., weather permitting.
Although there is no new ride opening this season, the park still boasts 49 rides and dozens of carnival games.
This is the first time in 17 years that Lagoon has not had a new annual ride, thanks mostly to the sagging economy.
Dick Andrew, Lagoon spokesman, said the park will have two new entertainment shows premiering this summer — both of which begin in July. "L'Orage," by Cirque Innosta — featuring acrobats, contortionists and aerialists — will run July 5-25.
"Extreme Parrots," a one-of-a-kind bird show, will go from July 26-Aug. 22.
April is traditionally a great time to visit Lagoon, when the crowds are sparse and lines are short.
Andrew said all of Lagoon's rides should open for the early season — weather permitting — since none are currently being refurbished.
Lagoon will be open Saturdays in April, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sundays, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
Daily park operations begin Monday, June 7.
Lagoon-A-Beach will not open until later in the spring.
Lagoon is located 17 miles north of Salt Lake City on I-15, exit 322.
Admission is $42.95 for people 51 inches or taller, and $37.95 for senior citizens and those 4 years of age to 50 inches in height. Admission for those under age 4 is $27.95. (Children 2 and under can enter the park for free, but rides cost extra.) Parking is $8.
Season passports are $84.95, and season parking passes are $50.
The park also allows outside food into the park, but also has many of its own food outlets, which sell a variety of menu items.
Lagoon opened in 1886 as one of America's first amusement parks.
