A brief history of Lagoon Is Fun
Lagoon Is Fun first appeared on the Internet in the fall of 2003. At that time, it was a Yahoo Group that was created for the purpose of discussing Lagoon, and a small group of people signed up. Unfortunately, the Yahoo Group was limited in its abilities and flexibility, so one of the moderators of that group decided to create a small website to be paired up with the Yahoo Group. On February 24th, 2004, LagoonIsFun.com was born. The Yahoo Group and this website ran side by side during the summer of 2004. The Yahoo Group provided an area for discussion while this website focused on providing information about Lagoon. At the time, Lagoon's website (http://www.lagoonpark.com) had some information, but it was very basic. The goal with LagoonIsFun.com was to provide a website that offered as much information as people were interested in about the park.
In the fall of 2004, people who were using Lagoon Is Fun found it frustrating to move between the Yahoo Group and the website to get all the information, so discussion began regarding the integration of the two into one unit. On November 2nd, 2004, the discussion forum for LagoonIsFun.com was first created making it possible to hold discussions on the website without the need for the Yahoo Group. Once all the members of the Yahoo Group had signed up for accounts on the website, the Yahoo Group was shut down with the new, single focus being on the website. From there, the website began to grow in users and information being shared, which allowed additional pages of information to be created. Growth was modest on the forum for the first couple of months, but in the 2005 LagoonIsFun.com would take its first step at becoming the premier website for Lagoon information.
During the spring of 2005, Lagoon began constructing the Bat - a suspended family roller coaster. There was a lot of speculation regarding what the Bat would be among those who were excited for a new suspended roller coaster. That excitement grew as pictures of the Bat's construction showed up on LagoonIsFun.com. The photos were taken by Lagoon employees who were equally excited over the construction of a new suspended roller coaster. There was an email address setup on LagoonIsFun.com that allowed anyone that knew anything the ability to email in what they knew. Once construction started, pictures started rolling in as well. Those same pictures were immediately placed on the website for all to see and enjoy, and it increased the speed at which users were signing up for LagoonIsFun.com. By the time Lagoon opened its gates for the 2005 season, LagoonIsFun.com was mentioned regularly by those who spent time on Lagoon websites.
As the community continued to grow, so did a need for people to share photos with other Lagoon Is Fun users. For the first few years, users would send in their photos to the webmaster to be uploaded. Photos would be posted around the website and on the forum for others to look at and comment on. This process was a bit frustrating for some because it could take up to a few weeks for photos to finally get uploaded because of the lack of time the webmaster had. The solution was the addition of a photo gallery that allowed users to upload their own photos. On September 14th, 2006, the Lagoon Is Fun Photo Gallery was born giving Lagoon Is Fun users the ability to upload as many Lagoon photos as they wanted with no limit. Over the course of a year, Lagoon Is Fun's Photo Gallery would quickly grow to become one of the largest sources of Lagoon photographs on the web.
Lagoon Is Fun has continued to grow and shape the online world of Lagoon over the years. It was the first website to announce Wicked, Lagoon's largest roller coaster to date. It was also the first to show what the roller coaster would look like when a team member of the website stumbled across an online article on a German newspaper website describing the new roller coaster that Zierer was building "for an amusement park in Salt Lake City." The article contained a computer generated video of the ride in action as well as a side-view graphic of the coaster. That video and graphic was acquired by Lagoon Is Fun and placed on the main page much to Lagoon's surprise, who were trying to keep the roller coaster a secret.
Lagoon Is Fun continues to press forward to this day. New information is added regularly by those who lovingly run the website as well as those who use the website. People, who love Lagoon, are encouraged to sign up and become a part of the Lagoon Is Fun community. We are a group of friendly people who enjoy chatting about Lagoon with others. Whether you have something to share, just want to chat, or are interested in learning about Lagoon, this is the place for you!
