Lagoon's Roller Coaster now 8th Oldest Coaster in the World!
February 02, 2010, 04:22:22 PM by linearinduction
This Week, Lagoon's Roller Coaster moved from 9th, to "8th Oldest Roller Coaster in the World," due to the dismantling of Libertyland's Zippin Pippin (1915 - 2010). Formerly the 4th Oldest Roller Coaster in the World and known as "Elvis Presley's Favorite Ride," Pippin was Designed by John A. Miller, Built by Harry C. Baker in 1915, and operated until 2005, when Libertyland closed due to financial problems. Last week, crews working for the Mid-South Fair began to completely dismantle the coaster, after tearing out a section in November, 2009, to see if the structure was salvageable.

FARMINGTON -- In moving forward, the Lagoon amusement park this season will be stepping back in time.
The park at this time has no plans to add a multimillion-dollar ride for the 2010 season, scheduled to begin April 3.
Instead, park officials are looking at offering limited-engagement specialty acts, an example being the primate show presented for a limited time last season.
"We hope to have a couple of shows, live entertainment, in addition to the song-and-dance stuff," said Dick Andrew, Lagoon executive vice president of marketing.

FARMINGTON — The weak economy has finally caught up to Lagoon amusement park.
For the first time in 17 years, Lagoon won't have a new ride to unveil when it opens this spring.
"We do not expect to have a new ride this year," Lagoon spokesman Dick Andrew said Monday.
"A lot of it is the economy."
Lagoon has boasted at least one new ride each season since 1994, when the Hydro Luge premiered. In the park's past 40 years, it has featured a new ride in all but eight of those seasons.

FARMINGTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - For the first time in nearly two decades, Utah's Lagoon Amusement Park will not be adding a new ride to its list of attractions in 2010.
Lagoon has opened at least one new ride each season to attract people to its theme park since 1994. Lagoon management says the recession is taking its toll on the park, leaving them no choice but to do away with a new attraction for the upcoming season.
